Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 9, 2016 — At IBC 2016, Lasergraphics announced that it has completely redesigned their flagship Director film scanner to feature a sprocketless film transport and the first ever scanner with 10K resolution. It's the latest in a long line of innovations from Lasergraphics.

The Director 10K sprocketlessly scans new or old 35mm, 28mm, 17.5mm, 9.5mm, 16mm, Super 16mm, 8mm, and Super 8mm film at greatly improved speed and can simultaneously output image and soundtrack directly to UHD/HD ProRes, DPX or TIFF, without the need for any post-processing. The 2D optical pin-registration feature automatically adjusts for shrunk and damaged film and incorporates a pressure plate to hold the film flat on four sides for exceptional full-frame focus. The Director 10K's double and triple-flash High Dynamic Range (HDR) capability for color and B&W film offers the best capture of print film shadow detail of any film scanner on the market. It's infrared dust/scratch detection and reduction is superior to conventional (dry gate) scanning and better than scanning with a wet gate — less messy and less costly too. The self-adjusting soundtrack subsystem simultaneously reads silver, cyan, or magnetic soundtracks without the need for any manual and time consuming operator adjustments.

Unlike vendors who only sell a do-it-yourself scanning “head”, the Director 10K is a complete turnkey system that includes all of the equipment and software needed to immediately begin scanning film and sound right out of the box.

When customers contact Lasergraphics for technical support, they are never shunted to a call center that reads the manual to them. Instead, they receive direct help from the very engineers that designed the product in the first place. That's unique in today's web-enabled self-help environment, and Lasergraphics customers love it.

Motion picture film scanners are Lasergraphics' only focus, not an afterthought. Lasergraphics has worked with film for more than 30 years and continues to invest heavily in film scanning R&D. The company's engineering group is continuously inventing new scanner capabilities (Who else can say that?). And customers never have to worry about obsolescence because Lasergraphics has always made these upgrades available to its existing customers.

For more than 30 years, Lasergraphics has been at the forefront of film imaging system technology. The explosive growth in storage and computing power enables file-based workflows to vastly outperform conventional methods. The Director 10K is simply the best film scanner in the world.
