Why do I see the film recorder on all SCSI IDs?
SCSI ID switches on film recorder are all set to the ON position.
- Turn off the film recorder
- Run Apple System Profiler.
- Identify available SCSI ID.
- Set film recorder SCSI ID switches to the available ID (default is 4 - switch 1 & 2 OFF, switch 3 ON)
How do I connect the film recorder to an iMac or iBook?
Use a USB to SCSI converter and MacRascol 5.2.3 software.
Some tested converters:
- uSCSI from Newer Technology, Inc.
- USB XpressSCSI from Microtech International, Inc.
- CON-USB-SCSI from Entrega Technologies, Inc.
How do I connect the film recorder to a Power Mac G4 or White & Teal G3?
Install a PCI SCSI adapter and use MacRascol 5.2.3 software.
Some tested adapters:
- SCSI Card 2906 from Adaptec, Inc.
- Grappler SCSI 906F from Orange Micro, Inc.
- AdvanSys Fast SCSI ABP3922 from Advanced System Products, Inc.
- PowerDomain 2930 from Adaptec, Inc.
- Miles TEALnote from Initio Corporation
- REX-PCI30P from RATOC Systems
Use high-quality, twisted pair, double or triple shielded cables and active termination plugs. Avoid adapters that convert 50-pin high-density connectors to 25-pin subminiature-D connectors. Lasergraphics film recorders have narrow (8-bit) SCSI interfaces. We do not recommend connecting the film recorder to a wide (16-bit) SCSI bus. While there are adapters to connect a narrow device to the wide bus, this may leave a portion of the signal unterminated resulting in possible data transmission errors and/or data loss.
Why can't I use MacRascol to image portrait files created on a Windows-based PC using the BLL generator?
BLL files created using a version of BLL Generator for Windows prior to version 4.0 are not compatible with MacRascol when printed in portrait orientation. This problem was corrected in BLL Generator for Windows version 4.0 and BLL Generator for Mac version 4.3.2. The current version of WinRascol or MacRascol software is required to resolve this problem.
I changed my film recorder's SCSI ID and it still won't record?
Select SCSI LFR in the Chooser.
How can I ensure that documents and image files I prepare on one Macintosh will image correctly on the computer that is connected to the film recorder?
Why do parts of the image on my slides look bitmapped or have black holes when I print from Quark Express, PageMaker or other Postscript-oriented programs?
MacRascol is not designed to handle Postscript files or files with embedded Postscript components (e.g. clip art or bitmap image saved as a Postscript object).
Rotated TrueType fonts appear blocky when printed with older application software.
Use only Postscript fonts or upgrade the older application software.
Rotated TrueType fonts appear as garbage when recorded onto film.
