LASERGRAPHICS BEGINS PRODUCTION OF WORLD'S ONLY 5K MOTION PICTURE FILM SCANNING SYSTEM

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 12, 2014 — Lasergraphics announced at IBC 2014 that it has begun production of a 5K option for its ScanStation motion picture film scanner making it the highest resolution and fastest motion picture film scanner on the market today. It's the latest in a long line of scanner innovations from Lasergraphics.

The ScanStation sprocketlessly scans new or old 35mm, 28mm, 17.5mm, 9.5mm, 16mm, Super 16mm, 8mm, and Super 8mm film and can simultaneously output image and soundtrack directly to UHD/HD ProRes, DPX or TIFF, without the need for any post-processing. The 2D optical pin-registration feature automatically adjusts for shrunken film. A Hollywood studio executive said “Lasergraphics' optical registration is the only such system in the world that requires no post-scanning stabilization.” The self-adjusting soundtrack subsystem simultaneously reads silver, cyan, or magnetic soundtracks without the need for any manual and time consuming operator adjustments.

Unlike vendors who only sell a do-it-yourself scanning “head”, the ScanStation is a complete turnkey system that includes all of the equipment and software needed to immediately begin scanning film and sound right out of the box. It is designed to be a high-volume production tool requiring minimal operator intervention. The ergonomic design facilitates quick and easy film loading. Its two built-in light tables allow splices to be repaired without removing the film from the scanner.

When customers contact Lasergraphics for technical support, they are never shunted to a call center that reads the manual to them. Instead, they receive direct help from the very engineers that designed the product in the first place. That's unique in today's web-enabled self-help environment, and Lasergraphics customers love it.

Film scanners are Lasergraphics' central focus, not an afterthought. Lasergraphics has worked with film for more than 30 years and continues to invest heavily in film scanning R&D. The company's engineering group is continuously inventing new scanner capabilities (who else can say that?). And customers never have to worry about obsolescence because Lasergraphics has always made these upgrades available to its existing customers.

For more than 30 years, Lasergraphics has been at the forefront of film imaging system technology. The explosive growth in storage and computing power enables file-based workflows to vastly outperform conventional methods. The ScanStation is the fastest and highest resolution way to make film available in digital form.
