LASERGRAPHICS SHIPS HIGH-SPEED FFV1 ENCODING CAPABILITY
Irvine, California, April, 2025 — Lasergraphics ships high speed FFV1 encoding capability that generates lossless MKV files during motion picture film scanning at high speed and without post-processing.
The archiving community generally prefers FFV1 over JPEG 2000 primarily because FFV1 offers greater long-term sustainability due to its open-source nature and features designed specifically for preservation.
However, FFV1 encoding has historically been excruciatingly slow for high resolution images, usually topping out at one frame per second for 4K 16-bit. This has made FFV1 impractical for archiving high resolution motion picture film scans.
Lasergraphics has eliminated this bottleneck by dramatically optimizing the FFV1 codec and by developing purpose-built hardware. As a result, the Lasergraphics ScanStation can simultaneously scan and generate lossless 16-bit FFV1 2K at 60 fps, and 4K at 20 fps.
Lasergraphics, Inc., founded in 1981 and headquartered in Irvine, California, is a leading designer and manufacturer of high resolution, high speed film scanning systems for the motion picture industry.
